SS26 'OSMOSIS'

SS26 'OSMOSIS'

LABRUM presents its Spring/Summer 26 collection, titled Osmosis, an honest exploration into the dissemination of culture and its ability to influence all that surrounds it. This season, designer Foday Dumbuya continues his long-term investigation into the ‘Freedom of Movement’ through the lens of cultural osmosis.

For centuries, sacred traditions, objects and rituals have been passed down through generations. However, as society evolves and families migrate, these non-verbal cues take on a new form. Culture is forced to adapt and transform with those who interact with it, giving birth tosomething new.

This collection is a window into the sacred consolidation between those who walked before us and the global diaspora. Inspired by West African references such as the Cowrie shell, a small porcelain shell that symbolised wealth and currency across several African nations, objects laced with cultural significance are dotted throughout the collection. The Cowrie shell is embedded into the fabric of this collection, including suits, headwear and jewellery. Inspired by African architecture and a design feature prevalent across the continent, LABRUM has created the ventilation print, a unique pattern that mimics the flow of air through concrete blocks. It appears through the collection, including the adidas x LABRUM footwear.

LABRUM’s signature showpieces are reimagined in this collection, a reminder that the freedom of movement — or cultural osmosis — is infinite and continues to evolve. Each showpiece is a living archive, carrying the untold stories of those who previously possessed it. With this collection, the idea of official documentation is diffused into the DNA of each piece, quietly alluding to the imperceptible process of osmosis. Military references reflect those individuals who are sent to preserve and uphold government orders. Silhouettes are structured and tailoring is sharp, creating a juxtaposition between the garment and the vibrant green, turquoise and crimson illuminating the collection.

The osmosis flower is an emblem of cultures merging, blossoming into something new, where borders dissolve. Just as the cowrie shell and the stamped textiles bear witness to journeys, the flower reflects the continuous cycle of movement and transformation at the heart of osmosis. Throughout the show, headwear made from natural fibres such as hemp, wheat, paper and raffa feature. These pieces have been dyed to create rich, earthy tones, punctuated with cowrie shells. The headwear merges the military silhouettes of a marching band with traditional styles of the Ekonda Botolo, a tall ceremonial head adornment, and Isichola, a traditional Zulu headdress. These elements take the collection on a spiritual journey of origins, examining the past and present, with hope and determination for a more unified world.

Sound Design

For LABRUM’s SS26 collection, Osmosis, A Symphony of Cultures and Balimaya Project craft a bold, original soundscape. Rooted in West African rhythms and shaped by the global diaspora, the score embodies cultural osmosis — the subtle, powerful flow between traditions, languages, and textures. Balimaya (meaning “the essence of kinship” in Mandenkan) blends Mandé musical heritage with UK jazz, street soul, and contemporary improvisation. For Osmosis, the group delivers a ceremonial yet streetwise sonic tapestry — folkloric drumming meets broken beat, syncopated brass, orchestral strings, and digital sound design.

Polyrhythmic textures meet modern groove, with stirring contributions from Tawiah, Obongjayar, Odumodublvck, Julian Knoxx, and Che Lingo — their vocals and spoken word weaving lived experience into the fabric of sound. This is more than a score; it’s a walking ritual, a migration in music. The result is a seamless fusion of past and present, homeland and diaspora, fashion and rhythm. Balimaya project doesn’t replicate heritage — it channels it, fluidly and fiercely. In this collaboration, sound and style don’t just coexist — they merge, declaring: heritage is not static. It moves, reshapes, and redefines the now.
