Announcing the latest Labrum collaboration with Grenson and Browns.
Labrum was invited by Browns to take part in Grenson’s “Future Shoes” project alongside Eckhaus Latta and Phipps. The project encompasses three styles from Grenson’s archive, beginning with boots and moving on to loafers and Derbies in 2022.
These very special Grenson boots will be available exclusively to Browns and will be produced in a limited number.
Storytelling, community, heritage and craftmanship are all paramount to the Labrum DNA so to showcase this in a new way of sharing Foday’s passion for telling untold stories around west Africa, London and the diaspora.
Foday started the project by looking at a selection of Grenson boots and considering how he could fuse his design aesthetic with such an incredible brand packed with history. The process involved studying different leathers and materials, working on positioning and trying out new techniques. This is what makes the final design a true extension of Labrum.
The final design combines two different leather grains on one shoe, a first for Grenson boots. The front upper leather has a roughness to it which represents Freetown, Sierra Leone, the hustle and bustle to make ends meet but also the richness of the land. The back upper has a smooth grain that represents London, a melting pot of culture.
Foday named the design ‘Ye-Alimamy Naimbana’ and we are excited to see the boots come into fruition.
“The thing I love about the Grenson X Labrum collaboration is the fact that we share similar values about our heritage, story telling and the desire to make quality product that stands the test of time. A classic boot can last a lifetime, in a similar way to a great suit or a favourite look!” – Foday Dumbuya
"I hope that the footwear industry continues to progress in areas of diversity and representation. That way we can all continue to grow and celebrate the joining of different communities.” – Foday Dumbuya
We are looking forward to sharing the next instalment of this collaboration and thank the Labrum London community as always for all of the support.
