Artist & Activist Almass Badat is of Indian heritage, and grew up in Lusaka, Zambia. Adjusting to London at the age of 10, Almass spent a lot of time amusing herself on East London’s Green Street while her mother and aunties sourced South Asian supplies for their community. Still known for trading fresh produce, Indian gold and traditional dress, Green Street is a mixture of Pakistani, Indian, Bangoli & Punjabi culture, situated left of the Afro-Caribbean hair shops and food markets outside Upton Park station. With Labrum’s Louis and julianknxx as good company, we followed Almass to Green Street to shoot Labrum in one of the places that make up her London.
